Saturday, April 7: Our sailors were met with snow and icy boats in the morning. The wind proved to be extremely light and inconsistent, but we handled the conditions well and snagged 5 bullets. We pulled ahead early and established a sizable lead in first place after completing 6 races in each fleet.
Sunday, April 8: Sunday greeted us with sunny skies and a nice breeze. Luckily, there was no more snow or ice. We finished the regatta with 4 more bullets and won first place overall. A Fleet placed second in their fleet and B Fleet placed first. Congratulations to our sailors for an excellent performance and for bringing home the Buckeye Invitational title for the third straight year! Great job defending the nut guys; we are so proud!

Jeremy A. Pinkerton Memorial Regatta @ UMD
Saturday, April 7: Upon arrival, the wind conditions and air temperatures were intense to say the least! After a small delay while waiting for courses to be set, we were finally able to get on the water and navigate the tricky conditions. Both fleets saw vast improvement in boat handling and tactics just over the first half of the morning, but the conditions only worsened. Unfortunately, A Fleet encountered a complicated capsize and in the face of hypothermia, VT was out for the weekend. Despite having an early end to the weekend, it was still a fantastic opportunity to get on the water and have a good time! We are so proud of two new skippers, Jim Hayes ('19) and Gustav Berner ('21) for going out and giving it their all this weekend! This is Jim's first ever regatta with us and Gustav's first as a skipper-- your commitment to the club did not go unnoticed this weekend! Additionally, huge thanks to UMD for housing us and putting on a fun regatta.
