We are apart of the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) and compete against varsity and club teams. For the past 4 years, our team has qualified for MAISA Club Champs, and the Henry Luce Trophy. We travel as far as Toms Creek, NJ, Ithaca, NY, and Norfolk, VA.
A typical regatta weekend: the team leaves Friday afternoon, drives around five/six hours, and settles in with someone's family, a host team, or a hotel. On Saturday, we race all day and socialize at night with the other teams. On Sunday, we finish up the races and leave for home around 2pm. In Spring 2017, we qualified for the America Trophy at Cornell and we placed 14/18. This Spring 2018 we will be holding practices on Thursdays and Fridays at Claytor Lake. We also hope to begin a Learn-To-Sail program for members who are beginners and looking for experience! It's both the most peaceful and intense one can be." - Ben Hayes ('16) |
